RDRC & REMA4US Host Meeting & Walking Tour w/NYC SBS Commissioner Jonnel Doris & Elected Officials
On Saturday, October 13, 2020, RDRC hosted a meeting and district walk with recently appointed NYC SBS Commissioner Jonnel Doris, NYS Senator James Sanders, Jr., NYC Councilman Donovan Richards, and Community Board 14 Board Member Khaleel Anderson. The meeting discussed ways to assist Far Rockaway businesses that, either shut down or modify their business operations as a result of Far Rockaway being declared a COVID-19 Hot Zone for at least the next two weeks.
Commissioner Doris also spent time touring the district and was also greeted by a small group of merchants led by REMA4US Board Chair Nancy Martinez and Executive Director Leonor Reina.
Many of the questions and concerns raised by RDRC, REMA4US and the local merchants, focused on the need for additional grant funding, as opposed to loans. The group also requested providing more “hands-on” technical support to help businesses apply for future COVID-19 grant opportunities.
RDRC continues to advocate for the Rockaway Peninsula; to receive more financial resources, such as the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Small Business Relief & Recovery Fund.
