Meet The Artists – Downtown Far Rockaway Artist Commissioning Program/Storefront Improvement
The CBO of the Rockaways partnered with Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) has launched the Downtown Far Rockaway (DFR) Artist Commissioning Program through grant-winning from the New York City Department of Small Business Services. A democratized art commissioning project focused on placing artwork designed by local artists on solid rolldown gates of businesses located in Downtown Far Rockaway.
This Initiative will help address the areas’ negative perceptions by creating the opportunity to present post-COVID-19 DFR as a vibrant hub for the growth of art support cultures and as destinations to enjoy food and thriving local culture.
The program has two components:
- Artists will create temporary new works of public art to install on the roll down gates of designated downtown Far Rockaway businesses.
- The residency will include a public unveiling of the artwork open to the surrounding community. Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) is proud to be part of this program on behalf of downtown Far Rockaway.
Come meet the Artists and Panelist, Friday, March 26th, 12noon-2pm, at the CBO’s office, located at 1920 Mott Avenue, Far Rockaway, NY.
