RDRC COVID-19 Downtown Far Rockaway Enhanced Cleaning & Sanitizing Services
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 21, 2020) – The Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation (RDRC) is pleased to announce the expansion of Downtown Far Rockaway sidewalk cleaning services from five to seven days along Mott Avenue, Beach 20th Street and Central Avenue, as of Monday, May 4th. The Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (ACE) will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of our Downtown Far Rockaway storefront sidewalks, public spaces and replace of City wastebaskets with fresh liners, daily. In response to COVID-19, ACE is also providing sanitizing services to approximately 40 businesses in high traffic locations throughout the Downtown District several times per week. This includes disinfecting door handles and entrances to pharmacies, restaurants, banks, tax preparation and payment financial centers, Mott Avenue train station, US Post Office, NYPD 101st Precinct and the Beach 20th Street Pedestrian Plaza.
“We are concerned about the ongoing health and welfare of the thousands of residents, commuters, workers and visitors that pass through downtown Far Far Rockaway on a daily basis and decided that sanitizing services should become a key component of Downtown Far Rockaway Street Cleaning & Beautification Strategy. We are grateful for the investment Councilman Donovan Richards has already made to improving sidewalk conditions and the ongoing support of SBS Commissioner Gregg Bishop and his team. We wish Gregg much success in his new Citywide advisory role with Mayor DeBlasio and look forward to working with incoming Commissioner Jonnel Doris”, stated Kevin Alexander, CEO of RDRC.
“For more than 27 years, ACE has been helping New Yorkers with employment barriers get back into the workforce and on a path to self-sufficiency. With this new partnership, the Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation is helping ACE put New Yorkers back to work, while at the same time helping to keep Rockaway clean and safe for residents, business owners and visitors alike. We consider it an honor and a privilege to provide this service to the community and we look forward to getting to work!” Jim Martin, Executive Director, of The Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (ACE).
