The Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation

Commercial Revitalization

Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation is able to offer local merchants  incentives with the goal to create the conditions under which businesses can thrive and residents can enjoy access to a vibrant mix of goods and services.  Several of our most recent projects include:

Far Rockaway Business District

The Far Rockaway Business District is located on Mott Ave and Beach 20th Street.   Commercial Revitalization efforts include merchant organization and business attraction.  RDRC is developing a "Business Directory" available to the general public as well as working with the Rockaway East Merchants Association in creating a Business Directory Signage for display in the heart of the commercial district.

New York State Main Street - Rockaway Beach (Proposed)

The Main Street grant program provides funds from the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC) to business improvement districts and other not-for-profit organizations that are committed to revitalizing historic downtowns, mixed-use neighborhood commercial districts, and village centers.

It is a brick and mortar program that provides funding for building renovations, façade and streetscape improvements, and in limited cases, capital funding for projects intended to anchor downtown districts.  Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation  has identified Elegante Restaurant and The Wave Publishing Building for this project.

RDRC Renaissance Center Office Building Project - Far Rockaway

The Renaissance Center project involves the acquisition, renovation, and lease-up of a five-story masonry structure located on the main commercial corridor in the Downtown Far Rockaway retail district. This building is the tallest structure on the commercial strip and has been vacant since 1995. The renovation of this building will hopefully spur other building owners to make significant capital improvements to their properties thus improving the look of the commercial district.

The construction work requires a complete renovation of the structure and will include all new systems and interior layouts.   The Renaisance Center will create 7,500 square feet of new commercial space, approximately 75 construction jobs and an additional 40-50 full time permanent jobs.
